Our services
The Research Faculty provides thesis editing services and other research-support services to academic and corporate clients. Services include consulting on research methodology, data management, statistical analysis, and writing analysis.
Editing: Standard Service
The Standard Service is a dissertation, article, or thesis proofreading service plus technical aspects (formatting and layout). It includes:
- Correcting errors of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and violations of a prescribed style
- If appropriate, changing spelling and grammar from US to British English
- Rewriting content for readability, clarity, and violations of accepted style
- Identification of sentences or phrases that cannot be understood
- Correcting in-text citations
- Correcting layout errors
- Formatting tables for style, readability, and consistency
Editing: Premium Service
A Premium Service is a Standard Service with sentence- and paragraph-level enhancements:
- Improving expression, diction, syntax, and style
- Flagging text for potential improvements (for example, wordiness, repetition, statements of the obvious or inflated truth claims)
- Commenting on content (provided this does not need domain-specific knowledge)
A Premium Service is not available for a dissertation or thesis (Masters or PhD submission).
Editing: Output
We provide the following output, as applicable to your document:
- Your edited document, with changes tracked using Word Track Changes.
- A report with queries and alerts regarding errors that require your further attention.
- An acronym and abbreviation analysis report.
Editing: A few details
Unless agreed otherwise, we need one working day per 12 000 words. For a PhD thesis, you should allow for two weeks. Shorter turnaround times are possible, on request.
We can work chapter by chapter, but we prefer to receive a single compiled document.
We work only with Microsoft Word files (sorry, LaTex users).
Our services include technical aspects (page layout, formatting, spacing, and font use, among numerous other aspects)
Writing advisory: Ezra
Ezra is a suite of writing analysis tools that makes recommendations on punctuation and style. Ezra will make you a better writer. The service includes feedback reports and a telephonic helpline.
For supervisors, Ezra is the supervisor’s Deputy Supervisor. Ezra does much of the spadework you normally do for a student, leaving you to concentrate on the bigger issues, the likes of the research methodology and narrative thread. Ezra identifies weaknesses in your students’ writing that you do not have the time to comment on.
